About These Terms

These terms apply to everyone who registers for training or books a lesson with Atlantic Star Driving School ("we," "us"). If the student is under 19, the parent or guardian who registers them is responsible for any fees owing under these terms.

Paying for Your Training

Our fees

  • Novice Program: your remaining balance is due by the first day of in-car training.

  • Approved payment plans: each instalment is due on its scheduled date.

If a balance or instalment is late, a $20 + tax late-payment charge may apply. We may also pause scheduling and training until your account is up to date.

Government fees
Our prices do not include government fees. You pay the road-test fee directly to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador before your test. If you pass, you also pay the government's licence-issuing fee. The government sets these fees and may change them at any time.

Using Your Training on Time

  • Novice Program: in-car training must be finished within 12 months of completing the classroom component.

  • Additional Training (including Extra Training and Road Test Preparation packages): in-car training must be finished within 12 months of purchase.

Training not used by the deadline expires, and no refund is given for it.

On Lesson Day

Your permit or licence. You need your valid permit or licence with you for every in-car lesson. If you don't have it, we will wait up to 15 minutes for you to get it or have someone bring it. If it doesn't arrive in that time, the lesson is cancelled and billed as a late change (see "Rescheduling and Cancelling").

If you're running late. If you are up to 15 minutes late, your lesson goes ahead but still finishes at its booked end time. The time missed is not added on.

If you don't arrive. If you haven't arrived and we can't get in touch with you by 15 minutes after the start time, the lesson is cancelled and recorded as missed.

Rescheduling and Cancelling

We need at least 24 hours' notice to change or cancel a lesson. That lets us offer the time to another student.

Charges

  • 24 hours' notice or more: no charge, except as set out under "Ongoing cancellations" below

  • Less than 24 hours' notice: $40 + tax

  • Missed lesson: $40 + tax

  • Lesson cancelled because you didn't have your permit or licence: $40 + tax

Ongoing cancellations
Your first two cancellations carry no rebooking charge if you give proper notice. Starting with your third cancellation, a $20 + tax rebooking charge applies to each one, however much notice you give.

All charges must be paid before we rebook. Missed or late-changed lessons may delay your training schedule. If cancellations become so frequent that we can no longer schedule your training reasonably, we may end our services (see "Refunds").

Road Test Readiness and Certificates

Finishing a program does not mean you are automatically ready for a road test. Before we book a road test or provide our vehicle for one, your instructor must be satisfied that you have the necessary skills. If they are not, we may decline to provide the vehicle.

You receive a certificate of completion once you have met all Novice Program requirements. We explain these requirements during the Novice Program and in our course materials.

How We Treat Each Other

We want every lesson and class to be safe and professional for everyone. We ask all students to be courteous to our instructors and staff in person, by phone, in writing, through messaging and in online classes.

You are welcome to question a decision about your progress, schedule or road-test readiness. However, abusive, threatening, harassing or discriminatory behaviour is not acceptable. If it happens, we may suspend or end your training (see "Refunds").

Privacy in Class

Unless you have permission, you may not:

  • photograph, screenshot or record another student, an instructor or a class session, whether online or in person

  • copy or collect anyone else's personal information

  • share, post, alter or distribute any such material on any platform, including social media, group chats and websites

This covers anyone's image, voice, personal details or participation in class. Please also keep private anything personal you learn about others through your training.

Breaking this rule may lead to removal from a class or program, or suspension or termination of services. You may also be legally responsible for any misuse. We take reasonable steps to protect your privacy, but we can't control what individual students do on their own.

Refunds

  • Before any training starts: full refund, less your deposit and any non-refundable fees.

  • After classroom training starts: refund for the unused portion of the program.

Additional Training

If we end your services
If we end your training because of repeated cancellations or conduct, any refund is worked out using the rules above.

How refunds are calculated
Before issuing any refund, we subtract amounts owing to us. These include deposits, training already received, unpaid charges and cancellation fees.

Your Agreement

By registering, booking a lesson, buying a package or otherwise using our services, you confirm that you have read these terms, understand them and agree to follow them. If a parent or guardian also signs for a student under 19, the student is still expected to follow all school rules and policies.
